This is one of only twenty monk seals left on Kaua’i. They are the most endangered species on the planet.

The fine for touching a monk seal is $ 25,000 plus 5 years in prison! They say,”Rob our banks, we won’t get mad, just don’t touch our seals!”

I’m not sure which member of my family this leg belongs to, but they apparently need a reminder that flip-flops (“da slippas”) and lava rock don’t mix.

While my sister is in Hawaii, I figured I would post the pictures she sends from her camera phone.

Not sure what this is, but I imagine it would make for some cheap transportation.

Is It The Master Plan?

Every year my parents take a great vacation…Hawaii, Hungary, Belize, etc. Do I begrudge them that? null But every year they leave right as the monsoons are hitting. null They leave my sister and I to take care of their three houses, the business, and of course their SWIMMING POOL. Do you have any idea what monsoon+swimming pool equals? Okay lets make matters worse. The guys repairing their roof, that were supposed to be done before they left town, broke the electric wires to their pool and the swamp cooler that keeps their makeshift greenhouse growing. So the equation is now monsoon+pool+no electricity to operate the vacuum and pump. Okay you’ve got that picture. Now…

All the power went out in the neighborhood for a twelve hour period. I am very heat intolerant so I stayed the night at a friend’s house. When I came back over the next morning, two of their trees were down in the front yard, the cooler panels had blown off, the pool was absolutely covered in debris which rapidly turns a non-operating pool green, and of course all their timers were off so the yard was being sprinkled mid-day which is totally useless. Being my day off I had NO problem working out in the heat all day to fix the problems…right! null

All in all it doesn’t top the year their whole family room and craft room flooded. My sister and I had to sweep out the water, remove all the books, (which is no small task in that house) pick up all the craft materials and wrapping paper and lay them all over the house to dry, and then rip out the old smelly, moldy carpet. Ah, the memories she has given us.

Perhaps they leave in July on purpose. null I think next year I am going to serve as their travel agent and tell them their are no flights available after June 15!!

Tagged…to post again

Miss Vox has been really trying to get me back to posting. Truly I enjoy posting. I appreciate when she gives me ideas to post about also, just never think anything is interesting enough to write about.

That said, she did challenge me to answer a survey of sorts:

Things you enjoy, not because you have to but because you WANT to, even when no one around you wants to go out and play. What lowers your stress/blood pressure/anxiety level? Make a list, post it to your journal. And then tag 5 friends and ask them to post it to theirs.

So in no particular order…

1. I have to go with the time alone as well. Do you suppose it has anything to do with growing up in a large family?
2. Attending church and learning about the LORD. Then fellowshipping with my brother’s and sister’s, discussing what we learned and sharing our lives.
3. Sleeping. And oh the smell of fresh sheets, with lots of pillows and a fluffy comforter!
4. Listening and dancing to worship music, on a slippery floor with only socks on my feet.
5. Spending time with friends, of which I count Miss Vox the highest.
6. Vegging in front of the TV. Yes, I admit it, after a long day, or when I am really tired, I love the brainlessness of the television. I prefer movies, but also try to never miss “Strong Medicine” on Lifetime Sunday nights.
7. Bubble Baths. Definitely with fun stuff in the water. My sons have gotten me bath tabs the fizz like alka seltzer, tabs that color the water fluorescent colors, and I love to take them on trips with me to add to the luxury and indulgence of a vacation.

So there it is, a peek into my life, at least the parts I like the best! null
